HP HP Classmate Notebook PC turns on but No display screen is black

Your laptop HP Classmate Notebook PC turns on, but the screen stays black there is no display with Power light ON and Fan ON. When you push on the power button the leds lights up, cooling fan works but nothing appears on the screen. The screen is completely black. There is no image on the screen at all.

Possible problem:

·         Backlight failure; First of all, take a closer look at the screen under bright light. It’s possible the screen shows the image but it’s very faint. In this case you have a backlight failure. Test the laptop with an external monitor connected to the VGA or HDMI port, if the external monitor works fine even though the internal screen didn’t light up, then most likely there is nothing wrong with the video card. Backlight failure can be related to faulty inverter board or bad backlight lamp, check them and replace the faulty one.

·         RAM failure; your laptop HP Classmate Notebook PC turns on, but the screen stays black there is no display with Power light ON and Fan ON. It’s possible one of the memory modules failed. In this case you can try cleaning and reseating memory modules to make sure they are making good contact with the slot. You can try removing memory modules one by one and test the laptop with only one module installed. You can try replacing memory modules. If reseating/replacing memory doesn’t help, try removing the hard drive, DVD drive, modem, wireless card, keyboard, etc… In other words, disassemble the laptop to bare minimum and test again. If the laptop still doesn’t turn on, most likely you have failed Video card, processor or motherboard failure

·         Screen faulty; your laptop HP Classmate Notebook PC turns on, but the screen stays black there is no display with Power light ON and Fan ON. The screen is completely black. Test the laptop with an external monitor connected to the VGA or HDMI port, if the external monitor works fine. In this case most likely you have you have a faulty screen.

·         Bad video cable connection; when you push on the power button the led lights up, cooling fan works but nothing appears on the screen. The screen is completely black. Test the laptop with an external monitor connected to the VGA or HDMI port; if the external monitor works fine you have bad video cable connection, check the video cable connection.

·         Video card failure; your laptop HP Classmate Notebook PC turns on, but the screen stays black there is no display with Power light ON and Fan ON. When you test the laptop with an external monitor connected to the VGA or HDMI port, the external monitor stays black no display. In this case probably you have failed video card, repair or replace video card.

·         Processor failure; your laptop HP Elitebook 8440p turns on, but the screen stays black there is no display with Power light ON and Fan ON When you test the laptop with an external monitor connected to the VGA or HDMI port, the external monitor stays black no display. In this there is chance you have failed Processor, reseat or replace processor.

·         Motherboard failure; when you push on the power button the led lights up, cooling fan works but nothing appears on the screen. The screen is completely black. When you test the laptop with an external monitor connected to the VGA or HDMI port, the external monitor stays black no display. In this there is chance you have failed Motherboard, check motherboard electronics components temperature with your finger and test the voltage and continuity with a voltmeter. The failed electronic component has to be replaced.

·         BIOS failed, motherboard electronics components look good, System power (3V/5V) work fine, you can measure the 3.3V and 5V on the motherboard, No electronics components have short or overheating and 3.3V on the power button, BIOS has to be reprogrammed (flash bios).
